Adobe Graphic Design Training

Adobe Graphic Design Training

Adobe systems is synonymous Graphic Design. If you have ever put together a corporate brochure, a product catalogue or designed a new logo and letterhead, chances are Adobe software was used to create these items.

Adobe Graphic Design suite consisting of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign is the cornerstone of professional Graphic Design.

The programs have evolved significantly over the last decade and Adobe has invested heavily in making their software user-friendly to a broad spectrum of potential users.

Companies are realizing that you no longer need a degree in Graphic Design to take advantage of these programs. Whereas most Graphic Design was traditionally outsourced today just about anyone with basic computer skills can be taught how to use these programs

What this means is that for a moderately low investment companies of all sizes can train staff to create corporate stationery, market collateral, brochures, mailing pieces, magazine covers, newsletters, and so much more.

At Training Connection we have put together a special Graphic Design training package consisting of 3 days Photoshop training 3 days Illustrator training and 3 days of InDesign training.

Our training focus has always been hands on and project based. Each class is taught by a professional graphic designer, who is also an Adobe Certified Trainer.

The package consists of 3 separate 3-day classes so you can spread the training out over a few months. By the end of the 9 days you will have the skills to design and create professional and compelling artwork, which will give your company the edge over its competitors.

Our Adobe Graphic design package is valued at 90 and includes 9 days of hands on training, 3 training manuals, Adobe certification, and for added piece of mind a FREE repeat valid for 6 months.

Training Connection has training centers in Chicago and Los Angeles and provide onsite Adobe training countrywide.

Web Design Photoshop Tutorial

Web Design Photoshop Tutorial

Many people new to web design are confused by slices and Javascript rollovers and end up abandoning their projects out of frustration. The point of this web Photoshop tutorial is to keep things simple by creating a web page that uses only 2 graphics.

Start off by creating a banner and place it in the top row of a table that will contain 5rows and 1 column.  The next row of the table will hold the text for your site along with photos you would like to incorporate into your site.  Row 3 will hold a separator, row 4 will contain text links plus a copyright notice, ending with row 5 being a second separator.

For this example we’ll name this site My Site. Now we need to find a graphic for the banner. You can find professional level images at sites such as the iStockPhoto galleries and at only or so for most images they are affordable. Free stock photo sites are also available for perfectly good quality images.

One tip is to choose one color from your graphic and utilize various shades of this color for your banner for a clean, coordinating look.  For the sake of naming a color for this example, we’ll go with green in a dark, medium and then light shade.

I find that by using the opacity slider on a sampled color you can create a nice variation. Open a new document and copy and paste the main graphic you’ve chosen into it. Now from the toolbox select the eyedropper tool and sample a color by clicking on it in your graphic. This will change the foreground color square in your toolbox.

With this done, open another new document and in the Background Contents select White and Click OK. With this document open, create a new layer by going Layer- New- Layer. Then go Edit- Fill and select Contents, Use: Foreground Color. This will fill your document with the color you just sampled. A valuable tip is to reduce the opacity with the slider and to basically adjust it until reaching the desired color hue. Once you find one you like, flatten the image by going Layer- Flatten Image. Again use the eyedropper tool, to change the foreground color square in your toolbox only now it will be the same as your newly created color.  Click on the color square and the color picker will come up, and you can make note of the numbers of the color you had just created.

Scroll through your fonts to find one that appeals to you.  Once you come across the one that you feel is right, play around with it a little.  Adjust the tracking, the leading and the scale, or even a combination of these.  Small adjustments can go a long way in making it much more personal and ensuring your site will stand out among others.

To select a font in Photoshop go Window- Character. In the palette you’ll see a list of your installed fonts. To tweak the settings you’ll need to bring up the Paragraph palette. You can do this by going Window- Paragraph.

If you are looking for new fonts, you have many options. Free font resources are available to you online.

For our example, create a new document that is 600 x 300 pixels. You can adjust this size according to your own design when you choose your own stock photo and plan the layout.

Now lets make a new layer by Layer- New Layer and call it Designer Pro. I’ll position the image on this layer and shrink it to fit. You shrink your graphic with Edit- Transform- Scale. The bounding box will have handles. Use the Shift Key to constrain proportions, and shrink your image by selecting the top left handle and pulling towards the bottom right. Drag inside the bounding box to move the graphic. Once it is to your liking, click OK.

Let’s go with a tinted background.  Here we will go with a light green.

I select the background layer, Layer 1, and I fill it with the light pink by going Select- All, then Edit- Fill, and in the dialog box in Contents, I select Use: Color and in the Color Picker I enter FBE0EC.

The result is a 600 x 300 banner with a gentle background color and with the art placed on the left. We’re getting there.

I’ve chosen to apply a thick stroke to the background layer to make for a more bold design. First make sure the Layer 1 background layer is active, and make a copy with steps Layer- New- Layer Via Copy. Next double-click next to the layer name. Blending Options in the Layers Style dialog box will appear.

Select and then click on the word Stroke in the Styles options on the left side. I changed the settings to Size: 7px, Position: Inside, Blend Mode: Normal, Opacity: 100%, Fill Type: Color, and I clicked the color swatch and entered D04E8C in the color picker. Click OK.

The border is just to balance out the design. Feel free to make changes and get creative with your own ideas.

Let’s place the names of the major sections directly on the banner. These will be the website links. We will be using image maps since it will be only one graphic.

Create a new layer for your words. Use the type tool to create the section names and then use the move tool to position them exactly to where you want on the banner. Remember to pick a color for your text that is darker than your background color to avoid finding yourself screaming obscenities and suffering major hair loss! Do this by going Window- Character. In the Character palette you’ll find a color square. Click on it to change colors.

You’ll need an HTML editor like GoLive or Dreamweaver to automate this process. This is really very easy. You create little “maps” over each word and enter the link destination. You’ll need to do a Google search on image maps to find a tutorial if you don’t have an HTML editor, or invest in a book like Elizabeth Castro’s HTML Quickstart Guide for help.

Create a new document. The width should be 600 pixels, and the height should be about 12 pixels. Fill this with your background color. Then, using the text tool and a dark color, type some periods, like this:……….. and place them in the file, centering them. Change the size and the spacing until it looks perfect. Now save this as a GIF file.

With your HTML editor of choice build a simple table that contains 5 rows and 1 column. If you’re going to use text link navigation below the banner instead of image maps on the banner, create an extra row so you end up with 6 rows in your table.  Place your elements into the individual rows of the table and that’s it!

If you are on deadline and can’t cope with learning any more Photoshop techniques or HTML, here’s another solution. You can buy a ready-made template from Template Monster that you can use as a base to create web pages in Photoshop.

On the front page of Template Monster you’ll find a pulldown menu where you can select options and then carry out a search for a template. The templates are reasonably priced and pretty easy to manage in GoLive or Dreamweaver. In the past I’ve purchased a template solely for the color scheme and the images. On certain projects I found this was less expensive than buying stock photos. Visit Template Monster to see the wide variety of website templates that they offer.

I hope this Adobe Photoshop tutorial will help you create a really cool looking site, and I wish your new website a thousand years of good luck!

Charlotte Web Design Link Tips

Charlotte Web Design Link Tips

It is no secret that links play a valuable part in assisting the boost of a web sites ranking in search engines, such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo. Whether incoming, external/outgoing or internal, all links help you in some type of way. Read over the list below to understand links.

A link strategy that places a web site as an authority in a web community or neighborhood can be a powerful way to catch the attention of the search engines.
Links from web pages with a low PageRank can harm your own web site. Be cautious of these sites or you will be punished as well.
Typically all incoming links to a web site hold some kind of significance.
Links that your web site content has more in common work best for your ranking.
The best kinds of links are the ones that include appropriate keywords. These words tell search engines what the referenced web site is about.
Links from sites related to yours are often more valuable than links from unrelated sites. (Because the relevancy software is almost certainly imprecise, this isn’t always the case.)
Try to monitor your links for proficient linking.
When your content changes, be sure to modify links on your web site.
It is recommended to create a link strategy and a link structure to better increase traffic flow to your web site.
Hire a professional search engine optimization company if you are unsure about links.

In every design there are basic rules to consider. For a web design, here are a few of the rules which you can take or break for your projects.

1 > Viewers do not want to scroll horizontally.

As a personal experience, I find it really annoying to have to scroll the page to the right just to be able to read the whole content of the page. People should not be put to the task of having to pick their mouse and move the web page over to the right so as to see what’s hiding over there.

It’s easier to scroll down a page than to scroll horizontally. One designer suggests checking out your web pages at resolutions of 640 x 480, 800 x 600, and 1024 x 768 to avoid scrolling the page to your right. It doesn’t matter that the majority of monitors nowadays come preset at 800 x 600. You never know when one of your audiences would have a monitor with the lowest denominator, and then have that potential client go to a competitor just because he or she also hates scrolling to the right.

2 > Have more than three screenfuls of information… not.

Having to scroll horizontally for the rest of the information is annoying, but it is also not fun either to have to scroll down the page forever just to be able to get the whole information.

The rule: one web page shouldn’t require a viewer to page down more than three screens. Of it is more than that then you better go back to the drawing board and re-design your screens.

But you should also consider that people will definitely scroll if the content is king. As one designer puts it, “You just need to balance content and nuisance factor with having to click through on links.”

3 > One web page should weigh in at no more than 50k.

If all of us would be able to obey the rules what a wonderful world this would be. But we should also be considerate of the fact that there are gray areas. Nothing is quite cut and dried. It would be lovely to have a web page that doesn’t take so long to download. It only takes about seven seconds to make a good first impression on the web.

However, there are times when you really need to put those large graphics and images. This is especially true for photographers. They need to have large pictures and photos in their pages to be able to convince viewers of their capabilities. Just a word of advice: do not bloat your web pages unnecessarily. It is still better to have viewers tinkering on your site than to have them go to another just because it takes a hundred years to download your pages.

4 > Do not force your viewers to download plug-ins.

This is another thing that bugs me aside from the scrolling horizontally. And that is to download a plug-in so that I’ll be able to view whatever it is I would like to view.

True, plug-ins can give that extra “wow!” to your interactive website. But always remember that not everybody have plug-ins although we’re in the advanced technology age. To accommodate everyone of your potential clients, think about creating an HTML alternative.

The most important things to format or design in booklet printing are your text and images. If you want a print booklet that is easily understandable and professional looking, you will have to format your color booklets precisely in a certain way. In this guide to booklet printing I will teach you how to format your booklets in that “certain way”. Below is a lot of professional text and image formatting guidelines in booklet design. Follow these guides in your layout and you should never go wrong with your text and images.
1. Organize text effectively – One of the key guiding principles that should rule your formatting of text content is effective organization. You should not just list down your contents via chapters. They must flow in a logical thought pattern that introduces readers to your custom booklet content with ease and style. Divide your content into chapters and sections for easier reading, and slowly add more detail to your content as you move along those chapters.

Introductions should be done first of course. Establish the framework of the booklet, the key sections people need to go to, the key definitions they need to know and then the benefits that they will get when reading the booklet. Afterwards, go into the meat of your message with all the important details the reader needs to know. Finally, you should add what the readers need to do after reading your custom booklets.

It is good to layout all that content first in that logical pattern so that you can write your text content more effective for booklet printing.

2. Use headings, sections and lists – Another good tip when formatting text in color booklets is to always use headings, sections and lists. These formatting devices help chunk or divide information so that people can easily digest the text and remember them. No one wants to read paragraphs and paragraphs of text in booklets that is hard to remember after wards. Most people remember and understand booklets more if they can see headings, sections and lists. So make sure you apply them wherever possible in your content.

3. Write in the best style for your readers – For writing content, it is important to always adopt a style that is ideal for your target readers. These target readers usually will have particular preferences, likes and dislikes when it comes to writing style. If you can effectively research what they like, and write in that specific style, your booklets should reach those readers on a deeper level, making it quite effective and powerful as a communication tool. So research what your readers like and write in the best style for them.

4. Use the best high quality images – When it comes to images, the main basic guideline is to always use the best high quality ones for booklet printing. No web sourced images here. It is important to always use your own original high resolution images in your booklets to make sure they are clear, clean and appealing. So do not be lazy, try to create your own original high quality images for your color booklets.

5. Scale your images properly – Another important guideline for formatting images in booklets is to always remember to scale images properly. In most cases, you will need to shrink your color images a bit to fit some formatting layouts. When this happens, the scaling and image ratios can skew as you change its length and width dimensions. It is always recommended that you scale those images properly so that they do not look distorted once resized. So be careful and use precise scaling tools in your design software to make sure those images look alright.

6. Balance your text and images – Balance is important in a booklet layout. Especially on the inside pages, you will want a good balance of text and images in every page. A booklet page that has too much text is boring and daunting, while a page with lots of images will make it look like a full blown gallery. So unless you do want to create an image gallery, it is important for you to balance out your text and image content. 70% text to 30% image is a good ratio for most booklets, but you should vary it a bit depending on the purpose of your booklets.

7. Check and proofread three or more times – Finally and perhaps most importantly, you should always check your text and images for errors. Always proofread them three or more times to make sure that there is no mistake in terms of spelling, grammar, color, composition etc. Since booklet printing is irreversible, you have to make sure that everything is perfect before you finally submit that design for printing. So do it three times or more to make sure no error slips pass.

So remember these guidelines in booklet formatting for text and images. They should help in maintaining a good quality of work from you in booklet printing. Good Luck!

Currently, websites are the most vital platform for a successful business that wants to deliver information globally.  Selecting the right web design ( Kansas City ) company in your area that can provide an affordable website is no longer a complex task.

Hiring a good web designer to design your website can at times be exorbitant. Instead of spending all your money simply on an expensive firm, you can find an affordable web design company with a strategy that is both innovative and admirable. Therefore, it is essential to survey the market before finalizing any deal.

Most business owners try to invest a minimal amount that will help them to get a business name and display their services or products to the customers as quickly as possible.

For an initial start up, an affordable web design firm can help you accomplish these goals the best, without having to sacrifice on the quality of work.

Many business websites do not need flashy animated pictures or complicated programming.  A good web designer can build the custom layouts for your website and make it look very striking for an affordable fee.

This layout can support a design with beautiful images and relevant, informative text to make your site look attractive.

Before selecting any Kansas City web design company, check their design principles.  You should be aware of the rates and packages available in the market, the services they have to offer, and the relationships the create with their clients.

Also, it is recommended to make sure that the company is local (in your area) so
you can schedule face-to-face meetings in order to better communicate
your ideas to the web designers.

Keep in mind that a good web design maintains a process that analyzes the business needs, plans for the best solution, creates a structure, and then designs it accordingly.  The planning process and needs analysis of your business is integral to establish before the first lines of code are written. This process will not only provide an effective online presence for your business but will also help to make
your website an important resource for your customers.

5 Text Design Effects that Brochures Benefit From

5 Text Design Effects that Brochures Benefit From

The text for brochure printing is of course one of the important elements in its design. While brochure templates can easily guide you on how to format your text, it is important to add your own text design effects to make your color brochures look more interesting. In this guide to brochure printing, we will teach you five text design effects that many brochures benefit from. Try to use some of these design effects in your custom brochures to make them more impressive and effective at delivering their message.
• Color Effects – The first most obvious effect that you should use are color effects for text. Of course, you should try to use more than just black colored text for brochure printing. You should try to be creative and use different font colors for your text that is appropriate for your brochure theme or concept.
Besides that though, you might also want to add other color effects such as using different colors for different sections of your text, or even using color gradients as a filler or color background for your fonts. These add a more dynamic element to your text colors that can make them come alive. Just be careful though with your use of color. You have to mix and match these perfectly to get the best effect.
• Texture Effects – The next text effect that should be great for brochure printing are texture effects. Texture effects for your text in brochures add a material or even three dimensional element to its design. With a certain texture effect for fonts, you can basically make your text to look like it was made from a certain type of material. From making your text appear like wood, marble, stone, plastic, metal etc. there are hundreds of options for this effect. As long as you do this effect right, you’ll have absolutely no limits with your creativity. So make sure you learn how to do this to gain benefits for your color brochures.
• Shadow effects – Shadows are also a great effect addition to your brochure text effects. Shadows help make text appear “lifted” in a color brochure to make the text look more pronounced. These shadow effects are perfect for titles, headings and other text that needs to look nearer and clearer to your readers. So don’t be afraid to try this effect out.
• Glow Effects – Now, if you really want to be flash with your text content, you might also want to try out glow effects. Glow effects basically add bright lighting values around the contours of your text, making them glow and shine. Of course, obviously these kinds of effects are perfect for headline and title text in your color brochures. Take note thought that there are several customization options with glow effects for text. You can adjust the span, intensity and even color of the glow effect so that it matches your color theme specifically.
• 3D effects – Finally, you can try to invest in adding 3D effects for your text in your brochures. Many brochures have used this effect on their own text for great effect. These 3D effects basically add more “pseudo-dimensions” into the text to make them look like blocks of letters in isometric view. You might need a more skilful designer to do this for your text, but it is all worth it to get that extra impressive look for your color brochures. So try it out.
So why don’t you try out these 5 text effects for your custom brochures? They might just be the thing you need to make your brochure printing come alive.
